Porter: general robot models in 2-3 quarters
Brad Porter says OpenAI's Astra generalizes better than anything he has seen publicly, then adds that it still loses to his own lab's model. Meanwhile Meta reportedly built a 48kg humanoid with a Chinese partner in about three months.

Porter says Astra loses to his lab's model, general models still 2-3 quarters out
Brad Porter responded to Freda Duan's thread calling OpenAI's Astra robotics' GPT-3 moment, saying Astra generalizes better than anything he has seen publicly but still does not beat his own lab's general model. He expects the industry to have general models in 2 to 3 quarters, either by labs fixing latency or by others solving System 1 (fast motor skills).
it’s not performing better than our general model in our lab, but we suspect we’re ahead of everyone right now

Odin Robotics launches arms that drop into factory lines as they are
Alper Sametoglu launched Odin Robotics, selling robot arms for CNC loading, packing and palletizing that he says fit an existing line instead of forcing a rebuild around the robot. The split is programmed control for steps that must be exact and learned skills for everything that varies. Mattie Fairchild says the team started by testing on Mission Robotics' bots.

Meta reportedly built a humanoid called Max with Fourier Robotics
Lukas Ziegler relays a report that Meta built a prototype humanoid named Max with Chinese hardware startup Fourier Robotics, framed internally as the physical body for Meta's Muse agent and aimed at household tasks. He says it was built in roughly three months, weighs about 48kg, a second version is underway, and Meta has no plans to sell it.
